When it goes to the pirates- everything beyond that is a story the professor is telling to the children, all the way to the very end when they escape from the castle.
one shot the car is clearly on sand, the next shot shows it completely cut off by the tide. I will forever have the family film of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as a childhood favourite, still love it today. I love it when it emerges from the garage shiny and never-before seen.
